A Mylestone Group

Founded in 2022 by Dr. Cynthia Mitchell and Dr. Jason Mitchell, A Mylestone Group is a Native American, HUBZone, woman- and minority-owned small business providing project management, professional services, and logistics support to government agencies. In less than three years, the company has grown from a startup into a successful government contractor serving federal, state, and local clients.

A Mylestone Group now supports the Department of Defense, Defense Health Agency, Department of Veterans Affairs, the State of Maryland, and the City of Baltimore, among others. Their rapid growth is the result of a focused strategy and consistent engagement with the Maryland APEX Accelerator.

Strategy Shift Leads to Major Wins

Early on, the Mitchells submitted multiple proposals without success. Through one-on-one counseling with their Maryland APEX Accelerator Counselor, Ameenah Parson, they refined their approach, learning how to target the right opportunities, leverage certifications, and clearly communicate their value to government buyers.

APEX helped us understand who we were as a company and how to market our strengths,” said Dr. Cynthia Mitchell.

That strategic shift quickly paid off. Over a 21-month period, A Mylestone Group captured several significant awards, including:

  • A $780,000, five-year Department of Defense prime contract

  • A $420,000 Maryland subcontract supporting a $1.5 million state grant

  • Multiple extended state subcontracts totaling more than $600,000

  • A $75 million, five-year IDIQ prime contract, positioning the firm as a key federal supply chain provider

Maryland APEX Accelerator supported the company with proposal templates, opportunity targeting, teaming guidance, and navigation of systems such as SAM.gov and eMaryland Marketplace Advantage.

When we came to APEX, we had an idea but no revenue, no capabilities statement, and no proposal experience,” said Dr. Jason Mitchell. “The guidance and templates helped us win our first DoD prime contract, and everything was built from there.”

Beyond contract wins, A Mylestone Group has invested in certifications and compliance, including ISO 9001, CMMC Level 2, and Joint Certification Program (JCP) registration, strengthening its competitiveness for Department of Defense and prime contractor opportunities.
